Remember This Moment (Altering Chipboard Tutorial)

Hi Everyone - Jen here today! I had a great time getting messy with this!  I wanted to use more than one photo on the layout as a recent request from Twiddlyebitz DT Bosses called for multi-photo layouts!

I sponged distress ink though the Twiddleybitz Chicken Wire template onto the background and overstamped with a compass stamp from Darkroom Door's Discover, Essentials 9 Collection.
I altered the chicken mesh wire using Claudine Hellmuth Multi-medium gloss.

 The more I added, the more it clumped nicely to represent the seaweed and stuff hanging from the net in the photos.

I force-dried it with my heat-gun and sprayed it it with an array of mists...

I used the Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel on my title and the new Sunfish - both Twiddleybitz chipboard pieces.  I added a charming chain, some shells, and some sugar beads.

Near the Sunfish I added an Elise Antique Brown Rhinestone Flourish, Sugar Beads and Charms, and a ticket made from the Kaiser ticket stamps and Tim Holtz die.  I'm happy I managed to journal along the bottom of my page using a Distress Marker, and added a date as well using the Grunge Charming Date bottle top from My2Angels.

Oh Christmas Tree Card by Charlene Camilleri

Step 1 

Separate the swirls from the pack, you will need 2 large scrolls and 3 medium scrolls. Spray with the Dylusions Fresh Lime Spray then use a heat gun to dry.

 Step 2

Spray a butterfly with the Fuchsia Spray and dry.

Step 3

You need to trim 3 pieces from your cardstock. One piece will be the actual card which will measure 24 x 16 cm. Fold in half. The second piece will be your snowflake piece which measures 11.5 x 15.5 and the third piece will be for your Christmas Tree, this measures 12.5 x 6.5 cm.

Step 4

Lightly spray your snowflake piece with the Fuchsia spray. Heat gun dry- the paper will bend up whilst drying, this is fine as it will flatten again.

Step 5 

Position your snowflake template over the sprayed card and randomly spray over with the fresh lime spray. Carefully lift the template off. Heat gun dry then adhere to the front of your card.

Step 6 

Use the Dew Drop Brilliance Gold to colour the edge of the card. Use foam tape and adhere to the right of the card.

 Step 7 

Cut 2 of the medium swirls as shown.Use glossy accents to adhere these and the butterfly to the white card. ( Fold the wings up to create a 3D looking butterfly ). Embellish with rhinestones. Glitz the butterfly wings with the kindy glitz.

Sandra's Brick Template Tutorial

Another Brick Template Tutorial
this time with  Sandra Wallace.

 

I LOVE the new range of Templates that Twiddleybitz have

recently released... so many options!!
For my Floating Bird Frame I used the

Brick Template TEM007

But for the purposes of this tutorial I have used the
Chevron Template TEM008 (because I have misplaced my Brick Template after a retreat!! eek!)

To create the Brick effect on my floating frame I used the following steps in the tutorial.. repeating

steps TWO to FIVE over and over again until the frame was completely covered.

Products needed for the Brick effect.

Versa Inks: Pinecone and Black
Gilding wax: Gold and Patina

Here I have used the middle part of a Twiddleybitz overlay to help demonstrate this technique.

Step ONE

Paint the base of your project with the Burnt Umber (or dark brown) paint

 

Now mix up you Impasto with the Mocha paint... making sure to mix it well.
Please note my Impasto is OLD!!! (I'm talking Stone Age!!) and it has lots of lumps in it...which might of helped with the end effect. :-)
Maybe this might be a good time to scrape the crusty bits off the top of your impasto container and put them to good use. ;-)

Step TWO

Once mixed together place your template on the area you wish to work.

 

Step THREE

And then spread your Impasto mixure roughly with your old knife.

It doesn't matter if it is a bit messy, lumpy or uneven, this will add to your end result.

 

Step FOUR

Carefully lift the template off and wash it straight away! (it is really is stubborn to clean off once it dries...trust me!)

 

Step FIVE

Dry using a heat gun.

 

If you are covering a frame or a large area, repeat steps TWO to FIVE until area is covered. (remember to wash template between applications!)

You will probably notice some white lumpy impasto pieces ... don't worry, these will be covered up with the following steps

 

Step SIX

Using a dauber apply Pinecone ink randomly to the bricks.

 

 

then add some Black ink in the same manner

 

 

then rub in some gold gilding wax

 

 

and maybe some patina gilding wax.
and then keep re applying the different inks and waxes until you get the result you like.

 

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it has inspired you to try this technique yourself.
Maybe you would like to try a more Terrecotta look with your bricks?.. adding more reddish tones,
Or sandstone bricks?..adding a lighter colour to your Impasto and using beige coloured inks.
Have fun experimenting!!

The above piece of brickwork won't go to waste.. I think I might try to incorporate it in a future layout.

Birthday Card Tutorial just 'For You'

Today we have design team gal RACHEL WALSH sharing with us.

Rachel has created a gorgeous birthday card that features TWIDDLEYBITZ templates and includes another way of using the fabulous flower template. 

 Rachel takes us through the creative process 

You will require

Position chicken wire template on card and ink around the outside inch or so using the vintage photo distress ink and a sponge.  Remove the template, and swipe ink around the edges of the card.

Cut rose trellis paper to 4” x 4” and ink edges.

Cut brown & cream stripe paper to 5” x ¾” and ink edges.

Trace the large and small flower templates onto the pink stripe paper, and the medium size template onto the music paper.  Cut them out & ink the edges, using the sponge.  Using a skewer, curl the leaves back a little, then layer the flowers, pierce a hole through the centre, and add pearl brad (you could also use a button or bling, with glue in between the layers, if you 

prefer).

Trim leaves to suit the size of the card (I cut two or three leaves off the bottom of each stem).  Spray with Mr Huey’s Dark Calico colour spray.  Using your thumbs, bend each leaf along the centre – it’s easier to do it while the spray is still a bit wet, but your hands will get messy! 

Apply a little rub ‘n’ buff to each leaf, then gently buff with a soft cloth to bring up the shine.  Re-bend the leaves after if necessary.

Assemble the card as follows:

1. Attach the flower approximately 2” from the left edge of the stripe strip.
2. Attach the rose trellis paper to the centre of the card, and the stripe strip on top of it – the top of the strip is approximately 2” from the bottom of the card.
3. Position the leaves as desired & glue them down with a little wet glue along the stems & the folded edge.
4. Add your sentiment in the bottom right corner with the itty bitty alpha letters – if you can see a white bit where you cut the letter from the pack, ink over it with your brown ink and it won’t be noticed once it’s stuck down.

Write in your card as desired, pop it in the envelope & post or deliver as required!  Using the flower template this way means that the card is not too bulky for posting, which is perfect, since my sister lives in NZ, and her birthday is two weeks away – guess who’s getting this card!

Creating with Twiddleybitz Templates with Rachel Walsh

Design Team Member RACHEL WALSH has been having fun with our templates.  Rachel showcases the Twiddleybitz TEM007 Brick and TEM008 Chevron for us.

Decide where you’d like to position your photo/s, and work out where you’d like to add some texture.  Position your template ( I have used the Twiddley template brick, product code TEM007) and hold it firmly while spreading a layer of texture paste over the top, using an old credit/store card or a palette knife, making sure it gets worked into all the corners – you don’t need to cover the whole template, just make sure the central area is well covered, tapering out to the sides looks good.  You can add some extra texture with a dry brush if you desire.

                 

When you’re happy, carefully lift the template off the page.  Reposition it on the other side of the layout if you wish, and repeat the process – be careful not to overlap the area that you just did!

Leave to dry thoroughly.  When fully dry, reposition the template over the top and, using a sponge (I like to use cheap make-up sponges), pick up some ink onto the sponge & dab it over the top of the template to colour the texture paste.  Start with a lighter colour, then use a darker colour to add some extra character & highlights.

When you’re happy, add your photos, title & other embellishments.

 This card was made simply by brushing a thin layer of white paint over the template (TEM008) when that was dry a thin layer of colour spray was wiped over the top.  A couple of colour sprayed leaves, and a flower made with the new Twiddleybitz flower template (product numberTEM005) from old music paper, and it’s done.

Another idea is ink over the template (TEM008) with different ink pads, using a make-up sponge as before, starting with the lightest colour, working across to the darkest colour, blending a little as you go.  Add a hand drawn border, an inked & glimmermisted fancy shoe, stamp & washi tape, and you have another quick card done.

You can of course use your colour sprays over the templates too, just keep the spray light as a heavier spray may run underneath the template and spoil your work.
